Samuel John Buffone Jr., an innovative legal thinker and seasoned litigator, is a founding partner of Buffone Law Group PLLC. Mr. Buffone is a former federal prosecutor with deep experience uncovering and stopping fraud and knows how to make sure a whistleblower is heard, not silenced. Mr. Buffone has extensive experience in complex litigation and knows how to understand and explain a complex business.

Prior to founding the Buffone Law Group (and its predecessor, Black & Buffone), Mr. Buffone was Senior Trial Counsel in the Fraud Section of the US Department of Justice. The Fraud Section has the primary authority to investigate and prosecute fraud against the United States, and during his time as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Buffone led investigations under the False Claims Act, FIRREA, the Stark Law, and the Anti-Kickback Statute. His work at DOJ led to recoveries totaling over $2 billion, and led some of DOJ’s most novel and complex investigations.

Michael DeJesus is an Associate at Buffone Law Group PLLC. Michael is an experienced litigator, both leading litigations and working as part of a larger team at BLG. He is committed to advocacy and leverages his experience in both public interest and government settings for the benefit of whistleblowers and other firm clients. He is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia.

He previously interned for AARP Foundation Litigation, Government Accountability Project, and the Whistleblower Office of the CFTC. Prior to attending law school, Michael was the Public Interest Advocacy Fellow at The Anti-Fraud Coalition (formerly Taxpayers Against Fraud), the nation’s largest and premier bar association of False Claims Act whistleblower attorneys. As a student at the George Washington University Law School, Michael participated in the Public Justice Advocacy Clinic and was a member of the Federal Communications Law Journal.

 

Michael completed his undergraduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C., graduating cum laude and with University Honors, receiving a B.S. in Economics with Minors in the Chinese Language and International Studies.

BRIANNA GREEN

Brianna Green is an Associate at Buffone Law Group PLLC. ­­­­­­­­Her previous experience in government and the private sector created a drive to advocate for whistleblowers and other plaintiffs. She is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia. 

She previously served as the Law Clerk for the Honorable Judge Gladys Weatherspoon at the Circuit Court in Prince George’s County, Maryland where she gained experience understanding a wide variety cases from the judge’s perspective. 

Brianna earned her J.D., cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law. During her time as a student at she was the digital articles editor of the American University International Law Review. Additionally, she was a student attorney in her law school’s Gender Justice clinic where she handled a wide range of cases ranging from family law to immigration law. 

Brianna completed her undergraduate studies at Mercer University in Macon, GA, receiving a B.A. in International Affairs with Minors in Political Science, Asian Studies, Law & Public Policy, and History. Brianna’s focus on international issues led her to spend a year in China teaching English prior to attending law school.

Talia Shemony is a recent cum laude graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park. She studied Criminology and Criminal Justice and was part of the CCJS Honors Program. Talia completed her degree with a thesis entitled “Addressing the Impact of Unchecked Prosecutorial Discretion on Coercive Plea Bargaining,” where she proposed a qualitative study with incarcerated offenders to investigate coercion in plea bargaining.

Josh recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a double-major in both International Business and Government & Politics. He has been a Paralegal for Buffone Law Group since September 2023 and has previous experience working at legal nonprofits in the Washington, DC area. When he is not working, Josh can be found playing golf or spending quality time with family and friends.
